A brief tribute to my late grandfather and hero

Robert W. Worthington (Memorial Obituary)

Robert W. Worthington, age 84 of 715 N. 11th Street, Manitowoc, died Saturday afternoon, September 5, 1992, at the Two Rivers, Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 1992, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.  Officiating the service will be the Rev. Bruce Hanstedt, with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemeterty, Manitowoc.

He was born June 24, 1908, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Charles and Anna Fricke Worthington.  He was a graduate of the Mishicot High School with the class of 1926, and the Manitowoc Business College in 1928.  Mr. Worthington was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.  He married the former Alice Mae Larson on August 8, 1942, at the Gjirpen Lutheran Church, Valders.  She preceded him in death on September 15, 1962.  He then married the former Marian E. Voelker on December 1, 1972.  She preceded him in death on April 1, 1986. 

Mr. Worthington was an accountant for T.C. Worthington from 1935-1954.  In 1954 became self-employed as a Real Estate Broker and accountant.  He was a past member of the Manitowoc Eagles and Elks Club, and a member of the American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88 since 1946.  In 1958 he became of member of the Wisconsin Real Estate Brokers Board, and a member of the National Real Estate Brokers Board.  In 1972 he joined the Manitowoc County Mulitple Real Estate Listing Board, and was a member of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, recently serving on its Economic Development Committee.

Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Karen and Don Wilson, Hudson, DOnnie Kuffie, Manitowoc, Susan Rehme, Two Rivers; one son, Charles Worthington, St. Paul, MN; 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emma Worthington, Manitowoc, Josephine Larson, Manitowoc; a special friend, Gladys Sell, Manitowoc; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by one son, James, and one grandson William.
